Sketchbook Time

I've been trying to push myself in my sketchbook this past week with my lettering...trying to get out of my "safe place" (a style of script I've gotten stuck with). 

My new sketchbook has become a place for exploring new types of lettering. Here's a little peek at the first few pages...

Very excited to have today "off" - going on a day trip with my hubby for a story he's writing. Things have been pretty busy in the studio this month (mainly due to my inability to not overbook myself) so it will be a nice day out! (although, at the moment, it's 12 degrees...)

A Blank Canvas

There is something so exciting and terrifying about a brand new sketchbook. 

The blank white pages thrill me. Yet, when it comes to making a mark on that first page, there is always a little pressure I put on myself. 

It's silly - a sketchbook is supposed to be for sketches: drafts/doodles/thinking on paper. But for some reason, as I get ready to begin, I dream of each sketchbook I start being museum worthy. 

I want this new sketchbook to be free of worry, free of pressure, free of everything. 

Even to say that this new sketchbook will be wholly creative adds pressure to what it should be all about. 

So I'm hoping to just let this new sketchbook be. Whatever it is, it will be.

A Peek Inside My Sketchbook

It's been a while since I've posted anything from my sketchbook, which is unfortunately because it has been neglected the past few months. But a couple weeks ago, as I sat uncomfortably at an art festival (while people walked by talking amongst themselves about my work), I pulled out my trusty book and doodled away. 

We were happy to be reunited...

Sunday Edition: What's Up in my Sketchbook

It's been a while since I've given you a peek inside my little sketchbook, so there's a lot of new doodles to share. With the traveling I've done the past month, there are sketches in here from all over: sitting in front of a mountain waterfall, hours in the car traveling (in the passenger seat, don't worry), time by the pool or at the beach, and of course, some done just hanging out in the studio. 

Here's a little glimpse of why I'm never bored...
