Instamonth: January

Well, there went January! That was fast, huh?

I would sum up this month in one word: cold. 

Seriously, there were days it didn't leave the 20's and that is just ridiculous. I experienced my first snow driving attempt (that didn't go well), made a lot of art, and spent many hours snuggled up on the couch with the hubs this month (when it get's dark at like 5:15 and it's 30 degrees outside, there's not much else to do!)

I christened a new sketchbook this month as well, which I've been filling up with a lot of hand lettered goodness. And I also have continued on with my art wall collection, purchasing a beautiful print by the talented Cathy McMurray.

We had a beautiful day hiking this month as well, but that would be the day my iphone died and I lost all those pictures.

Snow!

Hoorah! I have been waiting for this much anticipated day, where the cold air is finally worth it.  We got our first snow last night and I couldn't have been more excited! I kept the back porch light on just to relish in the snowflakes falling. 

I was like a little kid on Christmas morning today. I jumped out of bed, ready to go on an adventure with my hubby. We piled on our warm clothes (definitely not snow clothes, but our winter wardrobe is slowly improving...) and headed out. I love having a huge park just down the street!

It was also the first day we'd seen the sun all week, so the combination of the beautiful blanket of white and the crystal clear blue sky was breathtaking. 

Winter is finally worthwhile for me.

Virginia Life: Blackwater Creek Trail

As I've annoyingly said, way too many times, Brent and I are super busy right now. Holiday orders are needing to be shipped ASAP, winter weddings are needing their paper goods, and the newspaper needs Brent's stories - all by next Friday when we head on down to South Florida. 

Last weekend we had lot's of work to do, but decided it was too pretty of a day to stay inside. So we hit up a portion of the Blackwater Creek Trail on our beach cruisers, which led us through downtown Lynchburg and along the James River. It was a quick exploring session, but totally needed. 

Being outdoors together is the best medicine for Brent and I. Whether we are headed to the beach, geared up for a big hike, or just going on a walk in a new area, something magical happens when we are outside breathing in the fresh air. 

It was a nice afternoon, to say the least.

Happy Thursday! It's cold right now (27 degrees at the moment...) so I won't be enjoying too much of the outdoors today!

Art vs. Craft - December 1st

This past Saturday I participating in Art vs. Craft, Not Your Momma's Craft Show at the Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Lynchburg. 

It was a smaller show, but definitely a great success and a steady crowd of holiday shoppers.

I was excited to showcase some mini art works I've been making lately that revolve around our historic town we now call home. I used Instragrams on wood blocks approximiately 4" square (a few a bit larger...), and paint on top of them. 

They were a huge hit (I sold almost all of them!), and I'm definitely going to be making more in the future...it's a nice way to sell some more "affordable", one of a kind pieces.

November: Instagrammed

I probably say this every month, but wow, November sure went fast, right? Dang, wasn't I just getting back from England, basking in the glorious Virginian late-October? And then WAM it's November, we're all voting, eating turkey, and now all of a sudden it's Christmas time. 

Weird. 

I love instagram though. It's such a great way to capture the little things that went on in life - you know, the things you don't want to lug your big camera to, but yet, you just can't miss.

It's so nice to stop for a minute and look through all the blessings from this month. It's been another busy week with some stresses, but when I look back at the month we were given, I'm thankful.
