Other Peoples' Art Wall

I'd really like to start a wall in my house called the "Other Peoples' Art" wall. Our little apartment is jam packed with my own paintings - they are everywhere. From a 4' x 5' abstract in our living room all the way down to my little mini floral pieces nestled in corners. 

But we have an entire wall in our hallway that I've left untouched - mainly because I didn't know what to put there. It hit me this morning though. 

Other Peoples' Art Wall - I'd like to get this started. There are so many artists I've discovered the past year blogging that I admire, and I want their work!  

Here are the first pieces I'd like to add to this collection:

Hello Fall

It's here! It's here! It's here!

My first ever fall. Can you tell I'm excited? There is a crispness in the air, our windows are open, and the leaves are juuuuuuuuuust starting to change. 

So I went out and bought a bunch of pumpkins and made my first wreath! (see my post a few days ago here about the wreaths that inspired me - although I realize now, that mine looks nothing like the ones I posted about). 

First up, my pumpkins:

I decided just to keep them simple this year and use only white paint. Mostly because I was so excited to just paint them and put them outside! 

If you want to kick it up a notch though - go check out Alisa Burke's geometric painted pumpkins that she posted yesterday - they are really, really great. 

**Also, just a little note... See that big rock the polka dot one is sitting on that? I pulled that out of a stream the other day, carried it up a hill, and drove it home just for it's place at my front door. 

And next, my wreath:

I went the speedy route on the wreath - used a coupon from Michaels to get the wreath, and they had some paper flower packs on sale for 25 cents. Then, I used these cute paper flowers I ordered from Crazy About Creating on etsy. Other than that, just some felt, fabric strips and hot glue I pulled out of my craft box...

Super quick and super easy and now my front porch is fun and welcoming! Hoorah!

 

Welcome Fall Decor

This past week, I've woken up to beautiful clear skies, temperatures in the 50's, and a family of deer in the yard - every day. It had this strange "Christmas" feel to it, but that's probably because 50 is cold for where I'm from - I was confusing early fall for the dead of a Fort Lauderdale winter. 

I'm so excited for the leaves to start turning, to bust out pumpkin flavored everything, and for the first time ever - have a few fall decorations. 

This might surprise you, but I'm not much of a "seasonal" decorator. I've never gotten terribly excited about pulling out orangey leaves in November or pastel eggs in the Spring, just to put them away in a couple weeks. Christmas has consistently been my one and only holiday to decorate for - and even then, I have kept it limited to my tree and some lights and garland. 

But that's all going to change this year. 

Now that I'm actually experiencing "seasons", I'm getting the itch to decorate for them. I'm going to start simple...with a wreath. Yes, another decor item I have never had.

Oh, Hello June

Oh, June it's so nice to see you!

For most of my life, June has signified freedom. No school! 2 + months off of work! The beginning of a summer of endless possibilites.

What June holds for Meg and Brent:

This year, June involves an amazing beach vacation to Kiawah Island, SC with family. June includes Brent and my 2 Year Anniversary (you can click here to see our wedding) as a couple of married goofballs. June represents a new life in a new state doing new things, making new friends... June will involve a lot of exploring and hiking in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. 

What June holds for Makewells:

- sponsorship on Curious Damsel, My Girl Thursday, and Sincerely Kinsey

- beginning steps towards an E-Course

- lot's and lot's of art being made

- Makewells branding underway + business plan

What God has in store for us in June:

I make all these grand plans, but what's most important is that I seek the Lord first in all these things. If His plan and My plan are clashing, it's not going to work. Thankfully, I have this promise from Him...that no matter what plans He has, He is going to help. The key is to seek Him always and strive for My plans to be in line with His. 

"For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." - Isaiah 41:13

Before and After: Coffee Table Revamp

So #25 on my 29 before 30 list (see the full list here) was to fix up an old dresser for Brent and I's bedroom. Well, I haven't found a dresser that I like yet, but I did find a killer 70's mod coffee table for $25 that was just the right size/shape for our new place in Virginia! I decided that this definitely counts as #25 - and even better, I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

I wanted a piece that would bring a little more of a modern vibe into the eclectic mix of our home, so I painted some bold, geometric sections on the table top, but also let some of the wood stay as part of the design.
