Alter Ego: Michelle Vantine

It's been too long since I did an Alter Ego post. But I've been itching to do one since joining the ranks of the wedding industry. And combine that with the few little amateur photo shoots I've done since getting my hands on a sweet Canon (thanks secret Santa - you know who you are!) - I thought that a wedding photographer would be the perfect choice for an alter ego post.

Enter Michelle Vantine. If you've followed along, you'll recognize her work because she's the lovely lady who shot Brent's and my wedding.

I first met Michelle in Kindergarden, but didn't bump into her again until our senior year of highschool. We had art together. Instant connection. Which is probably why I love her photography so much - she doesn't just have a nice camera and sweet technical skill, she's got the artist's eye.

Alter Ego: Chris Crites

Chris Crites paints portraits, rather mugshots, on brown paper bags. They are quite funny...and a bit depressing...and very good.

It impresses me when someone sticks with something for so long. His portfolio goes back to 2003; 9 years of painting mugshots on brown paper bags.

He's today's alter ego because somedays I wish I could narrow my art down to just one stinkin thing. One thing, and be awesome at it.

Everybody has to be known for something, so without further ado, here is the infamous Bag Painter. (don't believe me? his website is www.bagpainter.com)

Alter Ego: Kisung Koh

Sometimes I want to make art that makes no sense. I'm not saying Kisung Koh's work doesn't mean anything, but I guarentee her work get's a lot of question marks. I love work that leaves me wondering, yet still appeals to me in a profound, visual sense.

I'm going to stare at these pieces for a while and wonder now...

Thursday's Alter Ego: Clemens Behr

After spending almost a year as a display coordinator at Anthropologie, I became mesmerized by installation art. Because that's what the displays were: temporary works of art installed in the space. It might seem difficult to put so much of yourself into a piece, knowing that soon it will be disassembled, but somehow it wasn't.

Clemens Behr does something I would love to do again - he transforms the environment around him into beautiful, yet temporary, works of art. Using found recycled objects and common building materials, Behrs draws inspiration from origami and spontaneous chance to create these amazing installations all over the world.

Maybe there will be some spontaneous installation work popping up in Lynchburg soon...who knows, maybe my alter ego will win out one day.
