Ok, so I let you all know last week that I was entering a mural design competition. Above is the wall that sits calling my name on the side of the Academy of Fine Arts building, smack in the middle of downtown Lynchburg.
When they announced this competition, all I saw was a tiny little blurb in The Burg.
I started doing murals around the school I worked at in Fort Lauderdale with my students back in 2010. It was definitely challenging trying to design something with 20 or so other artists all putting their own flair in the design. Ever since then, I've been craving my own wall to cover.
When we moved to Lynchburg, Brent drove me through the downtown area for the first time. I was struck by two things: how much character it had, and how amazing some murals would look around here.
The Academy of Fine Arts gave a bit of criteria for the mural. They wanted it to show one or more of the following things: POSITIVE ENERGY, COLORFUL, MOVEMENT, EXCITEMENT ABOUT THE FUTURE, A REFLECTION OF THE ARTS IN LYNCHBURG.
Also specified was: no traditional city scapes or landscapes.
Without further ado...here is what I came up with and will be turning in today. Prayers appreciated!
I have no idea how many entries there will be, or what anyone else's vision is...but, I'm not gonna lie...I kinda think my design rocks.
Happy Wednesday!!!!
