Yesterday, Brent and I celebrated our two year anniversary. Two years that flew by and have been full of blessings and challenges.
I really can't complain about one of the challenges, which has been our differences in the area of tidiness...well, I take that back. I can complain a little, when it get's out of control.
For those of you that don't know us too well, your probably thinking that I'm a neat freak and he's messy. That's usually how it would work in a traditional marriage...but no. That's not it at all.
My husband is obsessively clean. And he married an artist.
Thankfully, now that we're in a new home in Virginia, I've been given my own room to call my studio. I've learned quickly though, that that doesn't mean Brent won't be wandering in here and getting himself stressed out. In the past 2 weeks, I've caught him wiping down my desk with his ever present stash of baby wipes, snatching my bottle of water or coffee and returning it to the kitchen (while I'm still drinking it...), or just simply passing through to make sure the carpet is straightened.
Ask any of my former students and they will let you know immediately that I like to be messy when I create. Many times I found myself flipping out at the end of class, yelling about the mess that was left, only to realize that I was the one who made the mess. Dirty brushes in the sink? How dare they! Oh wait, that was usually me too. Splatters all over the floor? Me. Pastels all over my laptop? Guilty as charged.
Most times I get dressed up to go out to dinner or to church, I realize just as I'm thinking I look so classy, that I've got paint smeared down my arm or splattered on my shoes.
Now combine that girl with the man who vacuums when he is stressed out, wakes up every morning and goes outside to make sure no bird poop has landed on the car, and goes through a bottle of clorox each week...
What do you get? A perfect match of course. I'm learning to clean up a little better after I work, and he's learning to let me be messy until then...
Right now, I'm in my happy place. And it is definitely not neat or tidy in here.
Happy Wednesday friends! (And honey, I'm hoping you laugh when you read this...I love you!)

Your work is beautiful :) congratulations on 2 years! x
